From the Westerkerk to the Jewish Quarter

A two-hour walk that starts at the Anne Frank monument beside the Westerkerk, passes the house on the Prinsengracht and follows her story across the centre to the old Jewish Quarter. Pick it for the route and for the language: guides lead it in English, German, Italian, Spanish or French.

Anne Frank Guided Walking Tour

About this experience

You meet at the Anne Frank Monument on the Westermarkt, a bronze statue by Mari Andriessen unveiled in 1977 with Otto Frank present. The Westerkerk rises behind it, the church whose bells Anne could hear from the Secret Annex, and the Homomonument lies by the Keizersgracht a few steps away. From there the guide walks you past the Anne Frank House on the Prinsengracht and tells the story of the family in hiding, reading short passages from the diary along the way.

The route then crosses the centre: Dam Square and the National Monument, brass Stolpersteine set in the pavement outside the last homes of victims, the Portuguese Synagogue and the Auschwitz Monument. On the way the guide explains how Jews who fled the Spanish Inquisition helped make Amsterdam rich, why the Jodenbuurt became the heart of Jewish life, and how Rembrandt came to live there too. It is about 2 to 3 km at an easy pace, and every sight is free to see, so there is nothing to pay along the way.

Each departure runs in one language, not two, so pick the right option at booking. The walk stays outside the museum. Timed tickets for the Anne Frank House are sold on the museum's own website, annefrank.org: EUR 16.50 for adults, EUR 7.00 for ages 10 to 17 and EUR 1.00 for children up to 9 (2026, booking fee included). The meeting point is around the corner from the entrance, which makes pairing easy: take a morning slot before the walk, or one about two and a half hours after the start so you have time to walk back from the Jewish Quarter. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start.

Daniel did an exceptional tour. Would highly recommend to anyone who is visiting Amsterdam. I booked the 900 am Anne Frank house museum ticket myself and then made it to the 1030 tour. It was a perfect combo.

We had a great tour with Maxym. The tour lasted 2 hours. He is very friendly and gave us a lot of information about the history of the Frank family, as well as the history of the Jews and more.

Tips before you book

  • Do what Sonya did: a 9:00 museum slot, then the 10:30 walk from the monument around the corner. New dates open every Tuesday at 10:00 CET for visits six weeks later, so book your slot as soon as your date opens.
  • Choose your language carefully at booking. Each tour runs in one language only.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and bring water and a rain layer, as the listing suggests. The walk is 2 to 3 km, all outdoors.
  • Coming by tram? No tram stops at the Westermarkt until February 2028. Ride to Dam Square and walk about 10 minutes.
